Cape Byron Headland Reserve

Why not stay a night or two in the former Assistant Lightkeepers Quarters at the most easterly point of the Australian Mainland

Let the walking track be your guide to the wonders of Cape Byron. Set aside at least 2 hours for a comfortable stroll around the 5km walking track loop.

See dolphins, turtles, stingrays and of course humpback whales on their annual migration between May and November.

Aboriginal culture is alive and well at Cape Byron. The Cape is very special to the Arakwal Aboriginal people of Byron Bay. For thousands of years, Aboriginal people have had a connection with the headland they call Walgun - “the shoulder”. It is part of their Dreaming - stories of creation and Aboriginal life. It is also a place of ceremony, learning and inspiration. An agreement recognises the traditional rights that the Arakwal people have to these lands.

Lighthouse history and maritime memorabilia can be included in a visit to the Cape. Cape Byron Lighthouse has been assisting ships with safe passage for over 100 years. Visit the Cape Byron Lighthouse Maritime Museum to experience the history of the Lighthouse.
